An 8-inch Samsung Galaxy Note no longer exists solely in the realm of unicorns and Apple TVs. A Korean news site is reporting that Samsung mobile honcho JK Shin has confirmed plans to release a midsized version of the tablet.

The 8-inch tablet will be the smaller sibling of this Galaxy Note 10.1.

Samsung's game plan of late seems to be to cover all bases, with a wide array of smartphones and tablets that come in a variety of shapes, sizes and price points. An 8-inch Galaxy Note to continue the trend could debut at February's Mobile World Congress (MWC).

Shin failed to mention any other specifics of the new Note besides the screen size, but earlier rumours claim that the middle child of Samsung's scribble-able device family will feature an 8-inch, 1280x800 Super Clear LCD display, a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 2GB of RAM and 16GB to 32GB of internal storage with a slot for more memory. It also packs a 4600mAh battery.

With so many choices for touchscreen devices available now, I have to wonder how long it will be until Samsung puts its malleable display technology to good use, and allows us to mould our own form factors, silly putty style.
