Save the date: Apple event 27 January

With a tantalising offer to "Come and see our latest creation", Apple has issued invitations to a US press event in San Francisco scheduled for 27 January.

Will this at long last be the unveiling of an Apple tablet, a product that's been the grist for online rumour mills for more than a year?

Apple is maintaining its typical tight-lipped status, but speculation of what's in store for the launch centres on some type of device that would let Apple muscle in on the burgeoning ebook reader market, most likely with a multi-purpose twist that would allow folks to surf the net and watch movies on it as well. Pundits' predictions range from some type of over-grown, 11-inch iPod Touch to a whopping 22-inch tablet PC.

Whether you think this thing will be an industry game-changer, or you side with the sceptics, there's no denying that the hype Apple's generated with it has kept the tech world buzzing like nothing else since, well, the first iPhone.

Go on, join the fun. What do you think Apple is going to announce, and will it tank or triumph? Have your say in the Talkback below.

apple has a reputation for creating a massive fuss over all its new products and they usually triumph over them all with their style, functionality etc. the tablet market is not really mature at the moment so i cant really see a way that apple can make a breakthrough in a market that doesnt really exist for most consumers. apple isnt a niche`company they always go for the mainstream, so until tablet PC's are a must have product i cant see apple producing one.

I don't see tablet pc's going that far apart from cheap ones replacing newpapers. So I'm not really interested. But hey, it's still pretty cool.
