A quick way to reduce digital photos before e-mailing them to friends is to use Microsoft Picture Manager, a free utility in Office 03 (or later).
In this CNET quick tutorial, you will learn how to quickly reduce digital photos to e-mail and post on Web sites. We will be using Microsoft Office Picture Manager
Note: Other software such as Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop Elements can also reduce photo sizes.
1. Right-click photo files, open with Microsoft Office Picture Manager
Select the photo you want to reduce. Right-click on the file name and select Open With > Microsoft Office Picture Manager.
2. Click Picture then Resize
Once the picture is open, go to the top nav bar and click Picture > Resize.
3. Choose the new size
Under resize settings, select Predefined width x height. The drop-down menu gives you six options, including sizes for e-mail and the Web.
4. Customise, if neccessary
Select the size that best suits your needs. You can use the Custom width x height: or Percentage option for more control over the size.
5. Keep track with the Size setting summary
The Size setting summary is great for keeping track of the changes you make to your photo.
6. Save as, and choose a new name
Under File, choose Save as to rename the resized photos. Do not choose Save, otherwise you'll permanently alter the size of your photo.
