The contest drew more than 900 entries and proved that digital art has no geographic boundaries: submissions came from artists in places as diverse as France, New Zealand, Argentina, Poland, Norway, Thailand, India, and all corners of the United States. Taking third place in the contest was Najeeb El-Fatih, a programmer and computer science teacher from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, whose arresting "Leopardo" looks like a slinking wicker cat.
"Like a legend brought to life it leaps off the table and into the playground of your imagination," the CGSociety's Mark Snoswell, one of the judges, said of the piece.
Visitors to the CGSociety.org online forums also gushed over El-Fatih's submission. "Wow man, this scene is amazing," one poster wrote. "The lights and the render and the model itself are wonderful. Your best entry so far."
