The Fountain Lake crew of Kath & Kim will find more of their dialogue recognised by Microsoft Office apps.

Microsoft Australia announced that the upcoming version of Microsoft Office will include Australian slang as words recognised by its Australian dictionary.

According to a press statement released by the software giant, more than 24,000 Australians voted in an online poll for the words considered most relevant to Australians today.

G'day came out on top as the most popular Aussie word with 2,868 votes. Sickie with 2,152 votes, ute (1,912), trackies (1,597) and bogan (1,557) rounded out the top five.

This means that these favourites and more, like dag, wuss and sheila will not be cursed by the red squiggly underline as spelling errors when they appear in Microsoft's Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

The new edition of Microsoft Office is due to be released to the public early next year along with Microsoft's next generation operating system, dubbed Microsoft Vista.

Australia's top 20 words were:

  1. G'day
  2. Sickie
  3. Ute
  4. Trackies
  5. Bogan
  6. Dag
  7. Sheila
  8. Wuss
  9. Uluru
  10. Galah
  11. Jackaroo
  12. Dob
  13. Bonza
  14. Cockie
  15. Dinky-di
  16. Ugg
  17. Waratah
  18. Ironman
  19. Ridgy-didge
  20. Bradman

Well Gareth must be doing something right to get the attention of you computer nerds whose only daily intereaction appears to be with a computer. Gareth should see it as a compliment that you would take the time out to watch him rather than using your Microsoft Office program. Perhaps they should develop a program to teach you guys how to interact with human beings. Further, I am not sure what you mean by the term bogan - from my experience the only people who use this term are bogans themselves because they do not know any better. From what I have seen and heard from other people of Gareth is that he is fantastic. He is a peson that people (obviously apart from computer nerds) can relate to, he has a fantastic personality and is very genuine. I listen to him each week night and have never had a problem with his language or tone and I have had speech lessons. So instead of having a go at people who are out there making a living for themselves and putting themselves out there you should start respecting people and perhaps take a leaf out of his book.
