Australian television guide provider IceTV has integrated its subscription-based Australian electronic program guide (EPG) into Elgato's EyeTV software through an update released yesterday.

An IceTV subscription together with a compatible TV tuner and EyeTV software allows Mac users to turn their desktop or laptop into a personal video recorder by enabling them to schedule recordings at the click of a button.

EyeTV verision 2.3.2 is available for download from Elgato's Web site, and supports features such as single-click video exporting for iPods. Previously, IceTV offered Mac users a dashboard widget to view TV programming schedules.

"An integrated EPG solution has been the one element holding back the EyeTV and Mac solution in Australia from rivalling PC's running Microsoft's [Windows] XP Media Center Edition 2005 as it does in other countries around the world," IceTV's business development and marketing manager Matt Kossatz said in a statement.

IceTV also plans to let Mac users schedule recordings via their mobile phone or the Internet through its Personal Interactive Media Planner, or PIMP, service.

Subscriptions to IceTV are currently priced at AU$13, AU$33 and AU$99 for one month, three months and 12 months, respectively. Bundles including an IceTV subscription, digital TV tuner and EyeTV software start at $199.

We've currently got two Elgato USB digital TV tuners in for testing at CNET.com.au so check back soon for the full reviews.

Pinnacle's Studio Ultimate offers a nice bridging gap product for those with low or high end video shooting equipment but little knowledge in video editing. Its Activation process is a royal pain, and set-up is likewise fiddly, but it ranks amongst the best in its class for ease-of-use video editing.

Apple iLife '08 is a fine, affordable media-editing suite that should keep beginners and hobbyists happy when managing pictures, videos, songs and podcasts, but those seeking to fine-tune movies should look elsewhere.
