Sony Ericsson K500i

By Kristyn Maslog-Levis on 17 November 2004

A fun new style from Sony Ericsson's usual corporate look. The K500i would appeal to a greater market compared to its older T styled mobile phones.

    • Good: Decent talk time.
      Very light.
      Detailed menu options.
    • Bad: Nothing special.

Simple cell phone with simple functions. I like its screen's bright color which feel cool to my eyes. Its hard body cell phone and its battery timing is good.

    • Good: Firstly, the phone overall is decent enough. I don't why so many people are coming about the joystick because i've been using mine ALOT for over two years and the only problems with it is that rarely you will have to push down really hard to move. People who compain about the phone generally will treat it like its a rock. But i've dropped mine tons of times; even walked in the rain a couple of times with it in my pocket. It's a very durable phone!

Secondly the camera quality is adequate for a phone camera, I have no idea why people need a 6MP for their phone. Regardless, the phone's camera is very good. When I travelled overseas I forgot to bring my camera, so my phone had to compensate... and it didn't let me down! Also included is numerous camera features such as frames, photo effects, video + sound and video effects.

As well as the camera and joystick. The overall look is great, simply because hardly any phones look like it. One of my pet peeves about phones is having the unique aesthetic of design. The navigation is easy to leam.

The featured games look sooo good. The tennis game is at least ps1-ps2 graphics. I was simply amazed.
The phone is packed with alot of features that I found most helpful: sound recording, music DJ, ect, etc.
    • Bad: Lets face the facts. 12MB is simply not enough for those who want to wizz through their content in an every-day location. I hardly see the point in provide an "mp3" player when you can only provide 1-2 songs at least. I mean geez, what's the point. Incidentally, you can't even add extra memory, no extra cards.

I also had to fork out an extra $50 for the USB cable for my phone. it's worth it though, if you want those photos from your phone to the cpu.

Hmmn. I hate not having bluetooth, it does have infrared. but it's just not satisfactory enough for this day and age.

Also for those people in Australia; it's very hard to find the k500i. Simply because I generally believe they don't sell them anymore. Regardless If you can actually find it, well done, because few people actually own the phone.

Ok guys. This little review is coming from the guy who has had the k500i for over 2 years. So dig in, because what I've got is the real deal baby.

    • Good: Relatively feature-rich for its time/cost
    • Bad: Where to begin? That crappy joystick that is so prone to breaking? The average display? the minute, for-some-unknown-bloody-reason recessed keypad? The cheap styling? The lack of connectivity (no BT, unreliable IR, no cable included)?

Not worth the cardboard it's packaged in

    • Good: The keypad is pretty... i guess.. it looks alright and the joystick is fun to play with.. but not really..
    • Bad: I cant send pictures.. there is no bluetooth.. There is no other cover for it.. it hurts when i try and get my sim card out.. the battery runs out really quick.. and yeh..

Omg i have this phone right now and there are no bloody blue covers in Australia so I have to keep the ugly grey cover.. I am so glad that I'm getting a new phone today!!

    • Good: nice looking, big screen, camera, video and voice recording and infrared
    • Bad: battery only lasted 6 months then died :-(
annoying sound when a photo is taken that cannot be changed... joystick problems, the keypad requires very hard and pressured fingerwork... not a lot of memory space... looks a little bulky, out of proportion and vulgar...

    not a fantastic phone :-(

i've had this phone for six months and its already dead... i regret buying it, i could have bought a better phone with similar features for the same price, (preferably a nokia)
