Sony Ericsson Pureness

By Damian Koh on 10 September 2009

Sony Ericsson wants us to think of the Pureness as "a work of art rather than technology".

We confess that we didn't think much of the Xperia Pureness when we first looked at the press shots of the device. Now, we take that back.

Shortly after the Pureness was announced, pictures of it started showing up on the web wilderness. The Pureness has a see-through and, apparently, monochrome panel. Going by the hands-on pictures on AreaMobile, the display contrast seems to be seriously lacking, but we'd chalk that down to a prototype unit that the man was holding. According to Sony Ericsson, the Pureness will be available in key markets from November.

Before you start bashing the phone (because who really needs anyone to see what's on your screen), the company wants you to look at the Pureness as "a work of art rather than technology". Right, but that doesn't explain the Xperia branding for the Pureness.

As an aside, the Pureness was unveiled at an event where the company announced its new branding initiative dubbed make.believe. Aside from a new logo with more colour variations, Sony Ericsson also plans to have a "stronger focus on interactive digital and social media channels". How about we start with getting the Pureness in our hands?
