    • Good: -Easy to set up, even a girl can do it
      -Fantastic pic quality
      -No smears
      -Blacks are blacks
    • Bad: None, you don't even have to pay a high price, I got mine for $4921 plus cables, from Clive Peters. (08/03/07 with next day delivery)

I have waited 5 years for this TV- worth the wait. Once it was set up, I tested it with the final fighting scene from Kill Bill 1- no smears & then I watched all 3 Matrix films in one sitting- I was hooked. Wildlife docs are so life like, truly AMAZING. What else can I say -
"IT'S A SONY" simply the best.

    • Good: Great 1080 resolution, colours, detail, appearence, quality and so much more
    • Bad: Blochy backlight (fixed by Sony)

Great 1080 resolution with amazing colours and detail. Can't wait to get a blu-ray player to find out it's real potential. A real piece of art to look at too. The only problem is a blochy backlight when the screen is completely black which sony says it will fix with no charge under warranty.
It's expensive but that's what because it's the best And if you're lucky you can pick up a 40inch for just over 4 grand

    • Good: Beautiful colours. Amazing resolution. Cutting-edge technology.
    • Bad: Price. Price. Price. But, as someone mentioned, you only live once!

This is one beautiful TV! After browsing through Harvey Norman's selection, we stopped in awe in front of its majesty. There was no need to look any further ... It should be delivered next week, just in time for the Australian Open! Yay!

    • Good: Performance - looks, quality, ease of set up.
    • Bad: None. Yes its expensive, but the best always is. Wait - but then something better will come along and will be too expensive, so you wait again.....

Wonderful - once you set it up. Sometimes it is too good - you see the failngs in the souce. Buy the best HD cable you can afford. Friends with Pioneer Plasma have turned green!

    • Good: -GREAT HIGH DEFINITION (1080P) IMAGES.
      -GREAT BLACKS & SKIN TONES
      -LOOKS GREAT.
    • Bad: -AVERAGE STANDARD DEFINITION

CONSIDERING AT THIS POINT IN TIME THAT STANDARD DEFINITION BROADCASTS & DVDS WOULD BE THE MAIN USE. I FIND IT REMARKABLE THAT THIS LCD GETS A HIGH RATING WITH LOW VOLUME MOTION SMEARING WITH FAST MOVING SCENES. LETS GET THE SCREENS DOWN TO 4ms RESPONSE AND WE MIGHT HAVE THE GREATNESS IT DESERVES.

    • Good: The technology and style are easy to appreciate. Cheaper than window treatments.
    • Bad: Cons
Its bigger than I want. 40inch is pretty dominating and I would have preferred to get a maximum of 37 inch.

I had been shopping for an LCD TV for a couple of weeks. I was replacing my existing 26” LCD TV because I had an issue with blur when watching sport (AFL) and high reflection (blankets over the windows were required) when watching AFL during the day. I did not want a giant TV and was aiming for a 32” LCD TV. I planned to address reflection with window treatments and spend around AU$1,800 on a new 8ms response LCD TV. So how did I end up with a 40 inch sony x that retails at $5,400?
    Basically the following happened:
The sony x is the most stylish looking LCD I could find. The image is also the best I saw (though im not a expert). The high resolution is very impressive and viewing from an angle is also very good.
Wndow treatments are very expensive and the sony disappeared the ambient daylight issue. It also has an auto ambient light detector and adjusts image accordingly – this is off by default and the screen was very bright all the time. Once I switched on the ambient light detector the tv calmed down and people could take of their sunglasses.
I also have a computer connected and use the screen as a monitor in the family room – surf the web – show the family pics – look at Google earth and recording large amounts of TV via web scheduler. The TV was able to show the PC at a high resolution (though not the highest the TV could handle) not sure why the limitation.
And the price was right as I got it for AU$4,600.
