Derek loves nothing more than punching a remote location into a GPS, queuing up some music and heading out on a long drive, so it's a good thing he's in charge of CNET Australia's Car Tech channel.

After a wait that spanned the holiday season, Sony's Personal 3D Viewer has finally arrived in the office. Let's find out what's inside the box.

Can't wait to get my hands on one of these later this year... Tax-time, maybe christmas.

With a pre-order price of $899, can you really see that many people snapping one up? Aren't Sony likely to have to bring this price down somewhat if they want to make any sort of impact?

For a couple hundy extra, you could probably buy a 3D TV...

It does seem like a product best suited to single occupant dwellings. I'm looking forward to going to a mate's house and seeing their roommate "plugged in" -- that will totally feel like a 'future' moment.

I wouldn't be so sure of that - I've got a few contacts within Sony and word on the street is that they've been selling like hot cakes... So well in fact, that even my contacts at Sony are surprised, given that they themselves consider this a niche product!

As for how it's going globally, well I don't have any information on that and at the end of the day, that's what counts in the grand scheme of things when "the powers that be" decide whether to mass-produce this or not...
