Sony STRDA5300ES
By Matthew Moskovciak on 16 January 2008
With six HDMI inputs, an intuitive graphical user interface and excellent audio and video quality, the Sony STR-DA5300ES raises the bar on what to expect from a high-end AV receiver.

I have to change my previous comments. Two days after my machine has failed. It is unable to lock onto assigned inputs. Results are you get either no audio or no video when changing inputs. Even after a hard reset, removing hdmi devices and switching cables, the problem persists. I am now without a receiver and am waiting on Sony.
- Good: Great for 5 weeks, now a paperweight.
- Bad: Apparently this is a massive problem in the US and UK. Sony have a change over program inplace the issue is that large. Will be interesting to see how I get treated by Harvey Norman and Sony to get either a replacement or to change my purchase.

Well, this amp is outstanding. Gui is pretty good if not quite up to the ps3 interface as the new 5400. Still, everyone has said it, put simply, it is just outstanding.
- Good: Feature set, sound and vid quality. Although a fairly standard feature, works brilliantly when paired with Sony bluray and Sony 46" Z with one button power on.
Price is a pro for me. As the new model was just released, I got this baby for $1500 which is just a no brainer. - Bad: The main remote is somewhat cluttered. Shall be buying a harmony universal me thinks anyway, so meaningless.

fantastic sound and the PS3 gaming has never been better.. However I did squirm admittedly at the price they wanted..
- Good: Solid HDMI connectivity and GUI is so simple.
- Bad: price, price price... Denon's AVR 3808 has a feature packed system which I ended up buying.

still love this unit. Bought a Sony bd 350 Bluray and now my DTS HD MA light shines with brilliance.
- Good: When i get the chance I crank this little beauty up and the house shakes with bass. Luckily my neighbour has a hearing problem!
- Bad: NONE! I challenge someone to find a real fault, not just a remote issue, or a small screen issue etc etc

OOOOOOOOOOOOO Yeah. Best piece of HiFi equipment i have ever purchased. The comments about the remote are true, however once you understand the unit and its capabilities the remote is straightforward - though you end up using the smaller one for everyday use.
- Good: 6 HDMI inputs - I have a laptod and a PS3 both connected via HDMI - what other technology can i buy ;-)
For Hi Fi enthusiasts, this is the unit to spend money on. Current Bluray players, TV's etc will be outdated in 6 months to a year but this unit should still be considered top of the range for AT LEAST 2 years.
GUI is simple and easy as is the Auto Speaker Calibration.
GREAT SOUND - Bad: The display on the unti is smaller than some i have seen but the GUI makes up for this
The Master Audio logo does not light up when Using DTS HD MA bluray discs, though i think thats a problem with the Playstation 3....

This heavy duty monster rocks the worlds. Its powerful system gets many watts base. From its dvi port we experience a great enjoyment of games also. Its very easy to set any dvd player setup. I like it very much
- Good: Full-size subwoofer.
Excellent clarity.
Good build quality. - Bad: Expensive.
