Sony today announced an expansion to its tablet presence down under, with plans to launch its clamshell-design Tablet P by mid-February through Sony Centres and online.

Sony will only launch a 3G version of the Tablet P in Australia and has priced the unit at AU$729 suggested retail price. The Tablet P has 4GB internal storage and a unique dual-5.5-inch touchscreen design, which can be folded up like a book. At launch, the Tablet P will run on version 3.2 of the Android platform, but is upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich in the future.

A 3G version of the Tablet S will also be made available this month, adding to the existing range of Wi-Fi-only models already on the Australian market. The 3G version of the Tablet S comes with 16GB of internal storage and is priced at AU$649. The introduction of this new tablet will push the price of the existing tablets slightly lower, with the 16GB model to bear an AU$499 price tag and the 32GB model to be AU$599. The price drop will come into effect on 16 February.

Sony demoed the new tablets alongside a range of its upcoming products at an invite-only Sony Sessions event today. Its Personal 3D Viewer was also on show at the event, a headset that simulates a 720-inch screen with two OLED displays and surround sound speakers. Sony plans to launch the Personal 3D Viewer in Australia in March for AU$899.

I can't think of a practical use for one of these. Trust Sony to come up with an interesting product that nobody will actually want **cough** vita . Does it play minidiscs?

simulates a 720 metre screen? wow...would be fantastic....if it was true...and it has OLED screens, not LCD....Joseph, Joseph....
better write a nice article about the disgraceful attitude of Nokia towards its aussie customers, deciding not to release Nokia Belle firmware upgrade in Australia, due to "technical constraints"....i think i was the last Nokia fan left here, after this they lost me too.
hope that Android thingy is as good as they say it is
