Spyware Doctor is a spyware remover that provides real-time protection against spyware, adware, Trojan horses, keyloggers, spyware cookies, adbots, spybots, browser hijackers, phishing attacks and other malware threats.

Additionally it actively protects Web browsing using Internet Explorer with a built-in popup blocker and malicious site guard. Spyware Doctor is easy to use and low on PC resources and its fast scanning speed is delivered by multiple specialised scanners that include Windows registry, file system, processes and tasks, browser, network configuration, cookie and an intelligent script scanner. Each scanner specialises in identification of specific traits of infections.

The free version allows customers to perform scans and remove threats and also Live Update Spyware signatures and functionally. The registered version adds additional tools and real-time OnGuard protection plus quicker access to live updates and support.

The well-designed interface makes getting started a breeze. The program can perform a number of scans, including Quick Scan, which blazes through common trouble spots such as IE cache files.

We found scan times to be faster than its competitors, with even the Full System Scan taking under five minutes on our test machine. Spyware Doctor displays scan results clearly, showing file and registry locations, threat level, and a concise description of the threat. The results seemed thorough, and Spyware Doctor had no trouble removing what it had found.

Spyware Doctor's advanced features include real-time protection, a pop-up blocker, a browser monitor, and a scheduler. Unfortunately, all of these features are disabled in the free version. The Live Update feature works smoothly, but it must be manually activated. A program such as this really needs an automatic update.

We really like the spyware removal features of Spyware Doctor, and consider it one of the most effective available, but the anemic free version will make it hard for users to fully realise its true potential.

    • Good: Looks / Easy to use
    • Bad: Reports dubious infections/ doesn't clean them

Spyware Doctor has been showing the same 56 results every scan for the last 2 weeks. Each time the scan is run the program claims to clean them. Running the program immediately after cleaning and the same 56 results come up again. In short it either is reporting false results each time or failing to clean each time. For the amount of system performance it kills, it's rubbish !

    • Good: Fantasic scan speed, removal process really outdone themselves.
    • Bad: none yet

For people that notice it the free version only scans and does not remove, go to google, click on more, even more at the top and then the Pack button, this will actually let you install the free version that WILL remove as well, google have selected it and put it in a special package, but if you want to give this software a real feel try it there. I will be purchasing it now!

    • Good: Easy to use. Real-time protection runs silently. Updates automatically every day. Good price.
    • Bad: You do need to purchase if you have infections. The free version just lets you know you are a risk.

Have had no problems with this software, it stopped a Backdoor Trojan in its tracks, which practically wiped out my friends PC (he only uses Windows Defender). I paid £20, and I believe it is the best around. And come on, it isn't really that expensive!

    • Good: Easy set up.
Quick scan as well as a complet scan.

    • Bad: Poor support.
Did not totally clean my system.

Pretty good but I am still getting some persistent pop ups. Overall it found a lot of infections. I tried to reach support which promises 24 hr response, but after 3 days still nothing.

Installed Spyware Doctor with antivirus and immediately my computer went insane. I think it conflicts with McAfee anti-virus but the big thing is that it decided that my Bejeweled2 game was malware and refused to let it open. If you want to play games, better not use this software. Also, an email to tech support produced no response.

Scanned once, found 'infections', cleaned them, then scanned again immediately afterwards and it found more 'infections'. Was it not supposed to find and clean everything first time? There was no internet activity between the two scans. So i stick with the free Windows Defender...

  • Baddnet gave 10/10 on 08/12/2006 14:38 Report abuse

    • Good: Easy to use, fast, realtime, Guards browser from highjackers, UpDates.
    • Bad: None

We use Spyware Doctor to clean infected customers computers. Works everytime. Do not interfear with any other protection programs. AdAware just does not do what spyware Doctor can do.

  • Professional Spyware fixer gave 3/10 on 19/10/2006 09:12 Report abuse

    • Good: Fair product which finds much more than say Defender
    • Bad: The free version does not remove any spyware. You heve to register to remove detected items. Effectively "There is NO free version"

    Free version won't remove anything

Any advertising about a so called "FREE" version should be removed as I believe its false advertising.

found more spyware than MS and Spybot

I don't usually pay for a program if I can get the same options and results for free. However, I found that Spyware Doctor was worth the price. Microsoft's beta product rarely found anything on my computer. I also like all the protections from the guards.
