SteamPrices lets you know if you're being ripped off on Steam

Craig was sucked into the endless vortex of tech at an early age, only to be spat back out babbling things like "phase-locked-loop crystal oscillators!". Mostly this receives a pat on the head from the listener, followed closely by a question about what laptop they should buy.

Among other practices, publishers have long been known for marking up prices in Australia through Steam.

Interestingly, we're not the only ones getting the raw end of the stick — for some titles the US, UK, Europe and Germany are also being hard done by. goes some way to exposing exactly how much identical products across the world are being marked up, regardless of the lack of shipping or packaging costs.

It allows you to select your region, then compare costs to two other regions, highlighting all the over-priced items. But it goes further than this, also allowing you to conversely scour for bargains in your country of choice, and also see what titles are being withheld from your region.

Of course, to make the most of SteamPrices, you'd need to be able to buy in multiple regions. While there are many techniques to overcoming Steam's region lockouts, each with varying levels of success, none is more effective than having someone you know gift you a title from that region.

Its ridiculous how much we have to pay for games, consoles, and electronics in general. I found a laptop in americat that was 1400$ and here, if you bought it and got it shipped was only 1500$ or so.

Australia has to pay alot more for electronicsa and imported goods as a 'tax' so we can have other things for free. E.g. if your sick you still have a shot at getting into a hospital for free.

Even though with Obama introducing a care system, the whole thing is redundent and just makes me more **** off.

There is a website which does a pretty good job of comparing prices of shops that ship to Australia. Check out

Clearly the overseas prices are much cheaper. Why do we have to pay so much more here :(
