Asus SDRW-08D1S-U External DVD-RW Drive

External DVD writers are never going to be exciting, but at least Asus' effort looks pretty.

Sony DRX-S70U

Sony's slimline DRX-S70U drive is quite appealing for travellers or those with dud notebook drives -- as long as you've got space for the AC adaptor.

Reviews

  • Sony BWU-200S Blu-ray burner

If you're in the market for Blu-ray authoring, Sony has produced a decent device. Everyone else will most likely stick to their vastly cheaper DVD burners for a little bit longer.

  • Pioneer BDR-202BK

Pioneer's drive and bundle is excellent, but also expensive and clearly an early adopter's product.

  • Plextor PX-810SA DVD±RW

The Plextor PX-810SA internal CD/DVD burner is quick for both ripping and burning. We like it.

  • LaCie d2 external Blu-ray burner

The LaCie d2 Blu-ray burner offers good performance speeds, but it's still prohibitively expensive.

  • Sony BWU-100A

Early adopters will see the BWU-100A as forging new ground, but most others will regard it as an unjustifiable expense, for now.

  • LaCie Slim DVD±RW with LightScribe, Design by F.A. Porsche

If you're a real design junkie, you'll love the slim LaCie DVD±RW, but everyone else would be better served with many other cheaper drives.

  • Optima A121

Optima's A121 has a nice feature set, but it's still a hard player to recommend.

  • Lexmark P450

The CD burning capability aside, Lexmark's P450 is just another home photo printer with average printing features and performance.
