Microsoft introduces 'Starter' version of Office

The new ad-supported, limited feature version of Office will come preloaded on certain new PCs. The replacement for Microsoft Works is one of several new ways Microsoft is trying to create new customers for its productivity suite.

Reviews

  • NHL 10

While it isn't as big of a leap forward as last year's game, NHL 10 is still one fantastic hockey sim.

  • Dell Inspiron Mini 10

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 looks to be an improvement on the Mini 9, although the initial low resolution screen, lack of WWAN and three-cell battery option could hamper initial sales. We'd recommend waiting for the updated model coming later this year.

If you work with Microsoft Outlook on a daily basis, this upgrade can make scheduling simpler and e-mailing more interesting. Still, we wish Instant Search and e-mail rendering were better.

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2007

PowerPoint's new graphics features may make better-looking slide shows, but its new file format can require extra steps for sharing presentations.
