Reviews

  • Olympus Mju 7020

We're a bit ambivalent about the Olympus Mju 7020. It's got a wide-angle lens and a relatively long zoom at 7x, but misses out on good picture quality and class-leading features like HD movie recording.

  • Sony Alpha DSLR-A380

While the Sony Alpha DSLR-A380 is a solid and inexpensive dSLR with a few nice features that will probably satisfy many shooters, it doesn't deliver quite enough on any front to outshine competitors.

  • Nikon D3000

As long as you don't expect too many fancy bells and whistles, you won't be disappointed with the quality and performance of the D3000.

  • Sony Alpha DSLR-A330

The Sony Alpha DSLR-A330 is a solid entry-level dSLR that will surely have its fans, but unless you really want Live View its cheaper sibling, the A230, is a better deal.

  • Sony Alpha DSLR-A230

The Sony Alpha DSLR-A230 is a solid entry-level dSLR that will surely have its fans, and it's a better deal than its slightly higher-end sibling, the A330.

  • Canon EOS 500D

The 500D is a very capable camera that is ideal for someone entering the world of digital SLRs. The inclusion of high-definition video adds even more appeal to the already good-looking package.

  • Nikon Coolpix L100

The L100 is a curious contender for the superzoom crown. It only has a 15x optical zoom and is hampered by a lack of manual controls, but it is light and portable. Just don't expect stellar image quality.

  • Ricoh GX200

As a portable alternative to a dSLR, the GX200 is an incredibly competent camera for serious photographers. Some noise and styling issues aside, Ricoh has clearly put an incredible amount of thought into this little package.
