Windows 7 means new laptops

While most vendors are simply installing Windows 7 across their existing range, a number of new laptops will be available for purchase now that Microsoft's new operating system has hit the market.

Reviews

  • Dell Inspiron 13

The Dell Inspiron 13 is great for those hampered by a tight budget, but who still want a competent and power-efficient thin-and-light notebook with a decent design.

  • HP Pavilion dv5-1050tx

The sleek design and good performance of the HP Pavilion dv5-1050tx makes it a solid contender, but don't plan on removing the power cord any time soon.

  • HP Pavilion dv2840TX Artist Edition

If you swing with the funky, then HP's Artist Edition laptop could be for you.

  • HP Pavilion dv2633XT Special Edition 'Verve'

The Verve is near perfect -- though it wouldn't hurt HP to squeeze out a little more battery life, thin out the crapware and to start supplying some realistic driver downloads.

  • HP Pavilion TX1219AU

The HP Pavilion TX1219 is great as a normal day to day business notebook, and not so great at being a tablet. Still the price is hard to ignore and it is an attractive machine -- so you could do worse than getting one of these.

  • Apple MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2.4GHz)

Apple's 15-inch MacBook Pro gets a solid under-the-hood upgrade for better performance and longer battery life, allowing the MacBook Pro to put enough distance between itself and the lower-end MacBook to justify its higher price.

  • HP Compaq 2710p

HP's attractive Compaq 2710p convertible tablet suffers from one fatal flaw, choosing a ThinkPad-style pointing stick over a touchpad.

  • Fujitsu LifeBook E8410

The well-rounded Fujitsu LifeBook E8410 gives corporate users a broad feature set, enterprise-level security, and decent performance and battery life.
