Nikon Coolpix P50
No-one will be getting excited about the Nikon Coolpix P50, a hobbled version of the P5100. Light on features but full of tweakable settings, the P50 produces pleasing images and is one of the most flexible compacts around. Shame about the brick-like styling, though.

Pleasing image quality and a wealth of manual controls make the SLR-styled Nikon Coolpix P5100 a good compact choice but its slow performance disappoints.
Where's the SLR-style compact camera?
Choices are sparse for camera buyers looking for some of the performance and control of an SLR but not its bulk. The options could improve soon.
