Unboxing the Nikon D3S

Fancy dropping close to AU$7000 on a camera? Sure you do. That's the price of the very flashy, very quick Nikon D3S. We've unboxed it just for you.

Nikon Coolpix S70

The S70 is a good stylish compact with the added bonus of an OLED touchscreen, but faces stiff competition from cheaper and equally competent cameras.

Reviews

  • Fujifilm FinePix S200EXR

The S200EXR stands on its own as a hybrid between a superzoom and SLR, with a 14.3x optical zoom lens and Fuji's Super CCD sensor. Expect great pictures but be prepared for backaches.

  • Canon Legria HF20

As far as mid-range camcorders go, there's not much to fault the Canon Legria HF20 for; the image quality is good, the autofocus speedy and feature list fairly full.

  • Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1

The Lumix DMC-GH1 proves that there's fight and fury in the Micro Four Thirds format, with brilliant HD video quality and great still images.

  • Ricoh GR Digital III

Packed full of features, the Ricoh GR Digital III won't appeal to every photographer, but for those looking for a fixed focal-length camera and something to complement a digital SLR, it's a great companion piece.

  • Nikon D3000

As long as you don't expect too many fancy bells and whistles, you won't be disappointed with the quality and performance of the D3000.

  • Olympus E-P1

Though it's rather expensive, we can't help adoring the E-P1. The pictures it takes with the included lenses are mostly great, just don't expect compact-like features such as a viewfinder and flash to be included.

  • Samsung ST50

Samsung's ST50 looks the part of a very compact digital point-and-shoot, but the images it produces could be sharper.

  • Nikon D3X

Normally we would express disappointment with a camera being overly similar to a predecessor, but not in this instance. Nikon has improved, refined and upped the megapixel count from the D3 to produce a professional-grade camera with every function you could ever wish for, apart from video recording.
