Five years of CNET Australia: GPS

Five years ago when CNET Australia was born into the cyberworld we weren't even looking at GPS devices. Nowadays, portable sat nav units are affordable and you can find GPS receivers baked into devices from phones to cameras and camcorders.

Lexus IS250 Sports Luxury (2009)

What the IS250 lacks in badge snobbery, it makes up for in good looks, rock-solid quality, neat handling and serenity enough to becalm a frazzled monk. While stuffed with tech, it isn't quite as up-to-date as we'd have liked.

Reviews

  • Samsung INNOV8 (i8510)

The INNOV8 is loaded with features and sports massive storage. If you're in the market for a mobile phone that can do just about anything the INNOV8 should be on your shortlist.

  • Panasonic SC-PT865W

It's got a few weak points, but movie buffs with large DVD libraries will find this a great way to add surround sound to their home theatre set-ups — particularly if wireless rear speakers are a necessity.

  • LG Micro HiFi System FB163

It's clad in a pretty package, but the FB163 disappoints on the performance front, offering confusing iPod features and an arguably superfluous USB recording function.

  • Sony Ericsson W300i

Extending the reach of the Walkman range into the lower-end phone market, the clamshell W300i looks to be a winner.

  • Talking Panda iRocker

Talking Panda's iRocker won't turn you into a guitar-shredding virtuoso overnight, but it can teach you enough to start writing your own songs.

  • Topfield TFP20

As a portable media player, the Topfield TFP20 is one of the most fully featured and best-performing units currently out in Australia.

  • Apple GarageBand 3

Mac users with even a minor interest in music or podcasting will be pleased with GarageBand 3's user-friendly interface and ample feature set, but the heavy app isn't ideal for most laptops.

  • Samsung YH-820

The Samsung YH-820 pulls a mean blade on the Apple iPod, but this tiny MP3 player doesn't have enough clout to inflict serious damage.
