  • Canon IXUS 200 IS

    Pairing a pretty touchscreen interface with a competent camera is always a good move, but we're a bit stuck as to what the 200 IS actually is: a touchscreen or a conventional compact.

  • Olympus SP-590 UZ

    Aside from a debatable, but useful, 26x zoom lens, there's little that's notable about the Olympus SP-590 UZ.

  • Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1

    As long as you don't want to make enlargements from full-sized images, the DSC-HX1 is an interesting, fully featured superzoom. Just beware of that exorbitant price.

  • Olympus E-P1

    Though it's rather expensive, we can't help adoring the E-P1. The pictures it takes with the included lenses are mostly great, just don't expect compact-like features such as a viewfinder and flash to be included.

  • Canon IXUS 110 IS

    The 110 IS sacrifices quite a lot in order to accommodate its curious styling and additional features. Images aren't as great as we'd expect, but that doesn't mean they're not any good — you'll just have to do a bit more tweaking to get the best out of this camera.

  • Pentax K-m

    We like the K-m and the image quality it offers, but having to fumble over the inconsistent metering and white balance can be an issue for users not familiar with manual exposure controls.

  • Olympus E-620

    If you've been hankering after an Olympus E-30 but baulked at the price, don't despair ... just get the E-620 instead. It's a competent, capable digital SLR in the vein of its older sibling, but a lot smaller and cheaper.

  • Canon EOS 500D

    The 500D is a very capable camera that is ideal for someone entering the world of digital SLRs. The inclusion of high-definition video adds even more appeal to the already good-looking package.
