Sony Vaio, Walkman, Reader get OLED treatment

In lieu of OLED TVs, Sony shows off OLED-based Vaio, Reader and Walkman prototypes at the CEATEC show in Japan.

Best touchscreen mobile phones

In the good old days we'd let our fingers do the walking when using the Yellow Pages. These days our fingers do a lot more with our mobile phones.

Reviews

  • Sony Ericsson W995

The W995 under-performs where it counts. The screen is small and of a low-resolution, the web browser doesn't inspire web browsing, and worst of all, the W995 is just too expensive.

  • Sony Walkman X-series (32GB) NWZ-X1060

After our preview, we're enchanted with the touchscreen Walkman, but fear that it will only appeal to a small minority of the MP3 player market, namely non-conformists and music aficionados with a burning touchscreen itch.

  • Sony Walkman NWZ-B133F (1GB)

The entry-level Sony B-Series Walkman is a solid choice for the gym thanks to its ultracompact design, quick charge function, and integrated FM tuner, but beware the eye strain.

  • HTC Touch 3G

Amongst the numerous HTC handsets this year, the unassuming Touch 3G may not make the strongest impact, but it is certainly one of our favourites.

  • Sony Ericsson W380i

Sony Ericsson's W380i is pretty much an MP3 player wrapped around a mobile phone — and a pretty darned good MP3 player at that.

  • MWg Zinc II

The Zinc II looks great on paper with HSDPA, Wi-Fi, a touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard. However, poor design mar the experience, with input being tremendously frustrating.

  • MWg Atom V

MWg's first Australian release is a solid Windows Mobile smartphone at a reasonable price, let down in part by sluggish performance.

  • Sony Walkman NWZ-E430F

Sony claims these 4GB and 8GB players will last for 45 hours of musical bliss between charges. Set for release in October, they come in black, red, pink and blue.
