  • Vodafone Compass

    Compass makes an excellent navigation tool for casual users looking for directions a few times a month or year. More frequent users should look to something more robust.

  • Garmin Nuvi 260

    As per the 260W — an easy to use GPS, with great verbal speed and red light camera warnings which, unfortunately, aren't installed by default — but narrower and AU$100 cheaper.

  • Garmin Nuvi 760

    If you're in the market for a GPS navigator with an FM transmitter and MP3 playback, not to mention excellent safety camera warnings, the Nuvi 760 is the one to go for.

    A good, easy to use GPS, with great verbal speed and red light camera warnings which, unfortunately, aren't installed by default.

    This good looking, entry-level GPS is let down by design niggles -- chief amongst which is the car charger, windscreen mount combo.

    Garmin's reasonably priced c510 GPS navigator uses text-to-speech technology and the latest SiRF starIII GPS receivers.

  • Navman F20

    Navman's F20 portable GPS is aimed at users after a simple and reliable navigation system, but it still includes features found on much more expensive models as well as few handy traits of its own.
