  The ViewSonic VG2427wm has a good assortment of ergonomic options and great performance, but its asking price is just a bit too high to recommend.

  The hardware performs its part of the equation just fine, but if you're considering Optus' wireless broadband make sure you take advantage of its seven-day trial period.

  Asus does a good job of combining a netbook and a touchscreen in the Eee PC T91, even if the system hits a couple of first-generation snags.

  With a 10.1 megapixel sensor, the W180 is a fairly standard compact camera, as it has a 3x optical zoom and a 2.7-inch LCD screen.

  Netgear ReadyNAS Pro

  With the ReadyNAS Pro, Netgear has proven it's still king of the hill. However, some interface quirks, inelegant recovery from catastrophic volume failure, and poor volume, user and share management may put some users off.

  Acer G24 LCD Monitor

  While its gaming performance is stellar, due to its ultra-glossy and reflective screen its viewing angle is unforgiving. It's also not the most ideal monitor for colour accuracy.

  For a very reasonable price of AU$599 you get a proficient compact camera with heaps of features, great dynamic range and, dare we say, sexy styling for a Ricoh. Pity about the noise issues and lack of HD video, then.

  Tall, lanky and cute as a bean, the Mitsubishi i MiEV seems to be a practical electric car for city driving. Shame it's only here for feasibility studies, not to mention lots of gawking.

  Nikon Coolpix S220

  We never thought that we'd describe a camera as cute, but we were wrong — the S220 is quite possibly the cutest little compact you can buy, with striking good looks for a relatively low asking price. It's letdown by the lens quality though, which detracts from the overall prettiness of the package.

  Apple Mac Pro (2009)

  Apple's new eight-core Mac Pro demonstrates marked improvements over the older model in high-intensity digital media and multitasking scenarios.

  Apple iMac 24-inch (2009)

  Apple made a number of changes to the 24-inch iMac, but making it available at this price is the most impressive. The rest of the updates are welcome, and Apple's multitasking capability remains unmatched.

  Apple iMac (20-inch, 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2009)

  A few other all-in-ones make this 20-inch iMac look expensive on a dollars-per-screen-inch basis, but none are as attractive or as capable juggling multiple programs. With a fast dual-core CPU and a strong array of features, Apple's updated all-in-one will slide seamlessly into a variety of roles at home or at work.

  BMW Z4 sDrive35i (2009)

  For the second-gen Z4, BMW has given it slightly smoother lines and a schmick-looking new folding hard-top. It also comes with a redesigned and much friendlier iDrive system for mixing your music and guiding your sat nav.

  Need for Speed Undercover

  Need for Speed returns to its roots with hokey cutscenes, wild cop chases and solid racing action.

  Sony Alpha DSLR-A900

  A good first try at a pro-level camera, the Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 has the high resolution but unfortunately lacks some of the performance and usability you expect from a model in its price range.
