  At just under AU$1,200, the AVIC-310BT is an on-paper bargain. It features a 4.3-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth hands-free, GPS navigation with text-to-speech and 3D view, a CD player, USB connectivity and iPod support.

  Nokia 6700

  The Nokia 6700 Classic is not a fancy-pants smartphone, but its high quality, 5-megapixel camera and brilliant screen help make this phone a front-runner in the mid-range market.

  TomTom One 140

  Same, same but slightly better than before. Quicker responses and lane guidance justify slight premium over fourth-gen One.

  Navman MY55T

  Just like the 4.7-inch MY50T, but with added goodness in the form of Bluetooth hands-free, more memory, an FM transmitter, 3D landmarks and a higher capacity battery.

  TomTom XL 340

  Bedecked in black and furnished with IQ Routes, a new faster, snazzier interface and lane guidance, the XL 340 is identical to the One 140 except, you guessed it, it has a wider 4.3-inch screen.

  Azentek CPC-1100

  Azentek's 7-inch, in-car PC offers navigation, Bluetooth mobile phone integration and multimedia playback capabilities.

  Nokia N85

  The Nokia N85 is another solid N-series phone but if you're looking for something different this won't be your bag.

• 

  Navman S300t

  Best. Looking. GPS. Ever. Shame that it's marred by a weak FM transmitter, reluctant Bluetooth and some interface issues. Still besotted but don't want traffic messaging? Go for the cheaper S100 or S150 instead.

  Uniden Trax 350

  Available only through Harvey Norman stores, the Trax 350 has a 3.5-inch screen, 3D terrain, 3D landmarks and safety camera locations. It misses out on the Bluetooth hands-free of the 353 model, which is available everywhere.

  Samsung INNOV8 (i8510)

  The INNOV8 is loaded with features and sports massive storage. If you're in the market for a mobile phone that can do just about anything the INNOV8 should be on your shortlist.

  Navman S35

  It looks like last year's S30, except it's been given the latest Whereis maps and spoken street names. Unlike the S-Series Platinum models, the S35 soldiers on with the old interface, which is now shared with the Mio Moov range.

  Mio Moov 370

  Traffic messaging and Bluetooth hands-free at a reasonable price, but the windshield mount and hard-to-read traffic alerts mean that it fails to scale the heights of its predecessor.

  Nokia N96

  It's a little slimmer and it has loads of storage, but Nokia's latest flagship model has little to justify its top-shelf price tag.

  Navman S200

  The S200 is like the top-of-the-range S300t, except that it misses out on a built-in traffic messaging receiver. This means its feature list includes an FM transmitter, MP3 and video playback, 3D landmarks, extended lane info and an iPhone-style interface.

• 

  Navman S150

  Stepping up the Platinum S-Series range, the S150 gains Bluetooth hands-free, MP3 playback and 3D landmarks, in addition to a shiny exterior and iPhone-inspired interface.

• 

  Navman S100

  The entry model in the S-Series Platinum range has spoken street names and extended lane info. All the Platinum models look identical with a flush 4.3-inch screen, iPhone inspired interface and brushed metallic rear.

• 

  Navman S45

  Replacing last year's S50 model, the S45 might lose five but gains spoken street names and the latest Whereis maps. It, like the S35, soldiers on with the old Navman interface, shared with the new Mio Moovs.
