  • Lexus RX350 Sports Luxury (2009)

Quiet, plush and with enough gadgets on-board — Remote Touch is nice, but where's the hard disk nav and USB folks? — the RX should please most drivers, but it's more of a passenger's car.

  • Lexus IS250C Prestige (2009)

Featuring a folding metal hard-top, the IS250C converts from closed coupe to al fresco cruiser in around 20 seconds. Shame then that it suffers from an ungainly butt.

  • LG Xenon

Matching a touchscreen with a full-QWERTY keyboard at this price point is fantastic. Anyone looking to make their cyber-life mobile should check out the Xenon.

  • Lexus IS250 Sports Luxury (2009)

What the IS250 lacks in badge snobbery, it makes up for in good looks, rock-solid quality, neat handling and serenity enough to becalm a frazzled monk. While stuffed with tech, it isn't quite as up-to-date as we'd have liked.

  • BMW 320i Executive Touring (2009)

It may be slow and the options pricey, but with the new iDrive system the updated 3-Series will sate your tech and luxury urges.

  • Skoda Superb Ambition 1.8 TSI (2009)

Skoda's new Superb may not be a beauty queen, but its Twin Door system allows you to have a sedan-style boot for most occasions and a large hatchback for whenever you're hauling large objects.

  • Sony Ericsson C905

The Sony Ericsson C905 is a very good phone with a decent camera, but don't expect this to be the model that has you selling your stand-alone camera on eBay.

  • Nokia 6600 Slide

If you're not bothered with having every feature under the sun and want a phone that's small and easy to use, the Nokia 6600 Slide is it.

  • LG Renoir KC910

With an excellent 8-megapixel camera and a finger-friendly touchscreen, the Renoir is exactly what it sets out to be: one of the best camera phones of the year.

  • Lexus RX400h (2006)

For those craving a luxury four-wheel drive with an emphasis on luxury rather than cornering elan, then the RX400h is a good choice. It's about as much four-wheel drive as many of us will ever need, and its fuel thrift is pleasing too.

  • Nokia N96

It's a little slimmer and it has loads of storage, but Nokia's latest flagship model has little to justify its top-shelf price tag.

  • Volkswagen Golf GT Sport TDI (Golf V, 2007)

A fine way to traverse Australia's vast distances, but we miss the Twincharger's up and at them attitude.

  • Volkswagen Golf GT Sport TSI (Golf V, 2007)

The GT Sport TSI shape-shifts easily between a relaxed cruiser and inconspicuous hot-hatch, and the 1.4-litre Twincharger engine is an engineering marvel. But the GTI is just five grand more. Decisions, decisions.

  • Sony VPL-VW40

Although there's room for improvement in the colour department, the Sony VPL-VW40 is yet another impressive advert for SXRD.

  • Nokia 6220 Classic

Playing on the brunette-stereotype, the Nokia 6220 Classic is a 3G smartphone that transcends its demure looks with pragmatic appeal, a stand-out 5MP camera and assisted-GPS.

  • LG Secret (KF750)

Though its teeny selection key can be a bit of a nuisance, the Secret has some winning features, including one of the best 5-megapixel cameras we've encountered on a phone.

  • Nokia N78

The Nokia N78 is a fun phone to use, and despite some annoyances it's likely to find fans in those looking for a feature-filled Apple alternative.

  • Samsung G800

The G800's chunky, pocket-straining dimensions promises a level of quality that isn't evident in the photos it takes. It's better than average, but well below the best we've seen.

  • Nokia N82

Nokia's latest N-series handset combines the form factor of the N73 and the feature set of the N95 into one powerful camera-phone package.

  • Samsung Giorgio Armani

The Armani's sleek and strudy appearance belies its lightweight feature set, the most notably of which is no 3G.
