Where would we be without batteries? Certainly there wouldn't be mobile phones, gaming devices, digital cameras or, even, automobiles as we know them. Today's Tech Time Machine looks back at who invented the modern battery.

Also on this day in history: in 2009, Bernie Madoff pled guilty to world's largest ever Ponzi scheme; in 1969, Paul McCartney married Linda Eastman; and in 1913, Australia's as-yet unbuilt capital city was christened Canberra.
