Tech Time Machine: 3 March

About The Author

CNET Editor

Derek loves nothing more than punching a remote location into a GPS, queuing up some music and heading out on a long drive, so it's a good thing he's in charge of CNET Australia's Car Tech channel.

Modified Ford Falcons, talking pigs and a famous Belgian reporter are just three threads that tie together in the knotted ball of the history that is 3 March. What does this all mean? Tech Time Machine investigates.

It's not exactly the biggest day in the history of technology, so let's pause a moment to reflect on some other notable events on this day, such as Steve Fossett's completion of the first flight around the world without stopping or refuelling (2005), the citizens of Switzerland voting to join the UN (2002) and the capture on video of the LAPD beating up Rodney King (1991).
