Telstra today adjusted pricing for its wireless broadband service for the second time in as many months, introducing a new low-use entry-level plan and data shaping on higher use contracts.

The entry-level plan will offer users 200MB for $29.95 per month on a 12-month contract.

In August, Telstra announced a range of new wireless broadband pricing which included a 3GB plan for $89.95. This price will now include 5GB of data on a 12-month contract, plus will exclude any excess usage charges when users exceed the data allocation. Instead, customers opting for a 5GB or 10GB plan will now have their throughput shaped to 64Kbps until the end of the billing month.

Customers who exceed their data allowances on plans without data shaping will pay $0.25 per MB of additional data used. In addition, new customers will be required to purchase a compatible BigPond modem costing $299.

Telstra's new prices:

Monthly Plan Monthly usage allowance Excess data charge Price per month
BigPond Wireless Broadband 200MB 200MB $0.25 per MB $29.95
BigPond Wireless Broadband 1GB 1GB $0.25 per MB $59.95
BigPond Wireless Broadband 5GB 5GB Data shaped 64Kbps $89.95
BigPond Wireless Broadband 10GB 10GB Data shaped 64Kbps $129.95

Signed up with Bigpond ADSL, moving overseas for a while so called them to cancel my service in a weeks time. Instead of canceling on the specified date they canceled straight away - right in the middle of me trying to send an important business email. Called to complain and bigpond admitted their fault but did not do anything about it. Their attitude was bad and it was like "yes it's our fault, but too bad we wont do anything about it") - I will never use this company again. Expensive with terrible customer service.

it is a pity Australia cannot catch up to the socalled third world with broadband,, when you can still use your mobile and also have 100 hours , yes 100 hours of unlimited downloads for only $3-50, we are being robbed in Aus

Vocoda, if someone's usage is anything close to >1GB then you shouldn't be making use of the 200MB plan... That's like complaining about massive bills when you make hundreds of calls on a $10 Casual plan. Higher plans accommodate higher usage.

If you want to be massively overcharged to the tune of $250/GB when you exceed the miserly 200MB "allowance" imposed by the Tel$tra marketeers.

When will people figure out it's not just the coverage that you pay for but the throughput as well? It's all great having "3.6Mbps theoretical peaks" but if the network is so heavily oversubscribed that latency goes through the roof then the real world experience is crap! Virgin, Optus, 3 may have cheap plans that are making users flock to them but they're not adjusting their network to accomodate them. Sadly a lot of users will think this is the norm for wireless networks - when it shouldn't be. You get what you pay for...

Unfortunately 3 dont have the coverage which is the only reason I left them. Its is way too expensive when you are roaming and too often that is the case.

I'm now with Virgin with 1GB for $15 casual but the $15/MB excess charges is a very nasty sting if you are not careful.

Three has a $30 broadband plan which includes 2GB of data and they have comparable network quality.
