TomTom Go 930

By Derek Fung on 25 June 2008

Arriving in August, TomTom's top shelf Go 930 features an FM transmitter, user correctable maps, text-to-speech, Bluetooth and a 4.3-inch screen, but its killer feature is that it comes pre-loaded with maps from 45 countries.

    • Good: Does everything advertised very well. Great support, EPT Brilliant, Bluetooth has worked with all my mobiles.
    • Bad: No carry case.

I have been using this GPS everyday for the last two months. This is the best GPS I have owned so far. I also have the Traffic option. This has been very usefull and reliable. Do youself a favor, GET ONE!

    • Good: refer to previous review.
    • Bad: refer to previous review.

I have previously reviewed this TOMTOM and have now had it for a number of months. Sensis maps are Terrible terrible terrible and have reassessed my initial rating from 8 down to 5 due to this and very low volume of the bluetooth handsfree.

With the current version 7 of Australian maps, advanced lane guidance and IQ routing does not function. TomTom support have advised that version 8 will probably be required, and you'll need to pay to upgrade to these. IQ routing and advance lane guidance do however work with European maps. Voice input of addresses also does not currently function.

    • Good: some aspects of mapshare/map corrections is very good.
MP3 and voice directions via fm radio.
      Spoken street names.
Comical voices (though you get tired very quickly of them).
      Remote control makes life easy.
Love it when I get a text message and the tomtom reads the message out aloud (via bluetooth)
    • Bad: Bluetooth compatibility issues
mapshare/map correction is not what is advertised.
      no handfree via fm radio
TOMTOM uses Sensis maps which are atrocious in rural areas (their own website states their emphasis is for metro areas).

Beware bluetooth is not compatible with all phones, make sure you check with the tomtom website first. The map correction function is excellent if all you want is to rename a street or block a street. If you want to add or delete a street, add a roundabout, or make any other major corrections you must send these corrections to Tomtom. Don't expect these corrections to be fixed anytime in the future as it appears that TOMTOM is storing them up until the next version of maps is released and of course you''ll have to pay for the next updated maps.
The MP3 player and voice directions via the FM radio is fantastic, but for some strange reason the bluetooth handsfree can only available via the device speaker.

    • Good: Almost everything the others do not have.
    • Bad: Too expensive, I don't mind just AUS maps and $250 slashed of it's RRP.

i think EPT (Enhanced Positioning Technology) should also be one of it's killer features.
