Top 10 mobile phones of OctoberMobile phone makers and carriers had all hand on deck in Australia during October. Vodafone became the third 3G provider, Nokia announced an onslaught of phones, and French manufacturer Sagem unveiled fifteen handsets locally.

Kerri-Anne Kennerley kicked of the month by spreading the news that Vodafone is carrying a back-to-basics, easy-to-use phone from Sagem called the Simply.

Sony Ericsson's announcement of two Walkman phones, successors to the W800i, saw both of the new models skyrocket into the top ten. First is the W550i, a swivel-designed, MP3-playing phone due later this year. The W990i, also due before the year is out, is a 3G handset that comes in a sleek black shell with a big screen. Not content with just two, Sony Ericsson also unveiled its high-end P990i, a business-oriented smart phone that follows on from the P910i. Too chunky for your liking? Sony Ericsson first Walkman-branded mobile phone boasts up to 30 hours of MP3 playback and a whopping 512MB Memory Stick is thrown in for storage. It also sports a 2-megapixel camera for video and stills.

Excellent Funky & Handy. Love it..love it..love it. Can't get enough of it. It even has this Video DJ, Music DJ and all the fun stuff. Got it from Optus and paying $25 a month for the phone. You just got to have one!

Sony Ericsson W550i

Sony Ericsson's second Walkman, the W550i, is a swivel phone due later this year that doubles as an MP3 player and a games console that can be played horizontally, vertically or L-shaped.

This phone has got it all, maybe it has no expandible memory but who needs that when you already have 516mb built in memory. The camera may only be 1.3 megapixels but its quality is amazing and pictures look more like they have been taken on the older model which has a 2 mega pixel camera, i recommend this product to any phone lovers...

O2 Xda AtomUpcoming mobile phone

The Xda Atom has Wi-Fi, a 2-megapixel camera and runs on Windows Mobile 5.0, yet shares the same dimensions as the Xda II Mini.

Processor too slow, battery life poor. We have been trialing this unit and find that the battery life is worse than the XDAII. Suffers similar lock ups to the XDAII, and short page freezes. Look it is a nice unit but I thought they would have fixed these issues.

Remember it is very bulky - but it's not just a phone. It's a music centre, video & camera + 3G. I have an LG which is bulky - but I'm used to it. So bulky phones don't worry me & they are more robust! Nice phone

O2 Xda II Mini

If you want a smart phone but want to avoid unsightly pocket bulges, you could do well to consider O2's slimmed down XDA II mini.

Not perfect, but pretty damn good. It's the most useful mobile device I've owned - and there's been plenty in the past 15 years. Main complaint is having to reboot everytime I want to check my email. It took some getting used to, but it's brilliant when it's firing properly.

    forget buying an o2 atom life xda. just do a simple check on the internet user forums on this site and other user groups. search google under o2 atom life complaints, issues, problems, user reviews and see what i mean. the o2 xda atom life is riddled with user hardware issues and problems, not just mine and ive had 3 phones so far this year.
