Top 5 plasma TVs

By Ty Pendlebury on 19 October 2009

Things have been a little quiet for plasma TVs in the past few years, especially after the big players Hitachi and Pioneer pulled out.

The focus amongst manufacturers is almost solely on LCD and its variant LED, with Panasonic perhaps the most noticeable exception — especially after Pioneer's withdrawal.

For years plasmas squandered in standard-definition hell (or worse!), but now — in the hands of plasma technology champions such as Panasonic — they are available in full 1080p definition, and for a more affordable price.

For our money, the Panasonic Viera TH-P46G10A is the best of this bunch as it has a superior mix of image quality, features and price.

Unlike previous years, all of the TVs here are full high definition and offer a good mix of features and performance for the price

The LG 50PS70FD with "Time Machine Link" is an even better deal than its more expensive sibling, and is just as capable as a television.

walkietalkie plasma definately has more flicker. I actually own a plasma having owned LCDs previously. I'm definately sensitive to the flicker on a lot of plasmas where as others can't notice it...

strange question but would hate to find out after purchase. Family member has epilepsy. Wondering if Plasma or LCD would be better. Wondering if one has more of a flicker, mostly unrecognizable but still there.
