Nic Healey can usually be found on a couch muttering about aspect ratios and 7.1 channel sound - which is helpful given that he's the home entertainment guy at CNET.

The VL900A is full HD TV, with a 16:9 aspect ratio, a 55-inch screen and Toshiba's own Advanced Motion and Resolution (AMR) 400 technology. AMR 400 uses backlight scanning and blinking to eliminate motion blur, ensuring that fast-paced scenes — such as sports and action — are smoothly reproduced.

The VL900A is impressively thin at just 43mm, and light for its screen size, weighing in at 21.5kg without its stand. Toshiba has put a number of impressive features into the TV, including Intel's Wireless DFisplay, or WiDi, as well as Dual Play — a mode in which gamers can use the passive glasses to each get a full-screen display when in a split-screen multiplayer mode.

Toshiba's own web-based content service, Places, is included, allowing access to YouTube, Facebook, Flickr and other similar sites and services. The VL900A includes a smartphone control app, four HDMI ports, two USB ports and USB Extended PVR functionality (requiring an external drive).

The Good:Everything...as you would expect from Toshiba!

The Bad:Not a thing.

Agreed! Great Smart TV. Had mine for 12 now, awesome picture quality, easy programming, smart furniture item as well. I paid $1199.00 for ours, with a free $200.00 credit card, so really only $999.00. wrapped!

The Good:3D is as good as the cinema, 2D-3D actually works, Wireless networking is easy, not very heavy for wall mounting

The Bad:I guess wireless built in would be good, but it was thrown in for free anyway.

We replaced our 42" LCD with this t.v (the biggest that would fit in our space) and chose it over other options based on value for money. It does pretty much everything any t.v. on the market can do, the picture is as good as others, the 3D is the best we saw and we got a singularly ridiculous price and they threw the wireless "dongle" in for free. I am still sure the guy made a mistake. We have only owned it 3 weeks, but I am having trouble thinking of anything wrong with it.

"Amazing TV"

The Good:The picture is just perfect, cannot find anything to complain about

The Bad:Wireless could have built in, instead of a USB dongle.

Wanted to replace my 50inch Plasma Panasonic TV for a LCD/LED 55inch Panasonic or Samsung. After seeing the various TV's at JB HiFI, theToshiba 55VL900A stood out for quality of picture, functionality and value for money. Everything works so well and better than i expected. The 3D is great, the built in media player works well, far better than the western digital player we have been using. Toshiba's web-based content service, Places, is average but we dont use it. To sum it up, an amazing looking TV, at a fantastic price with 2 year warranty.
