Digitimes has reported plans from Toshiba to produce an Android-based touchscreen tablet computer, due out in September or October of 2010.

The report is light on details, but claims the Toshiba tablet will include a 10-inch screen and run on an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor. Critical specs, such as price, battery life and 3G compatibility, are all still unknown.
Putting aside convertible laptops and the dual-screen Libretto W100, news of the upcoming Android tablet is the best evidence of Toshiba's commitment to the tablet since 2009's 7-inch JournE tablet.
The timing of the proposed tablet is also worth noting, since it has the potential to beat a rumoured Google Chrome tablet to market with a month lead. AOL-owned software blog Download Squad has claimed the search giant will release a Chrome OS-based tablet in November.
According to the blog, which cited unnamed sources, Google has partnered with HTC to offer a Chrome OS-based tablet. The device will run on Verizon Wireless' network and potentially be offered for a nominal price or as little as free, as long as consumers enter into a Verizon data contract. The blog's sources say the tablet will hit US store shelves on 26 November .
It's worth noting that back in May, Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam said his company is working with Google to bring a tablet to its service. He didn't say at the time whether his company was working with Google on an Android tablet or a Chrome tablet.
Neither Google nor Verizon Wireless would comment on the rumour.
