Toshiba has announced a new range of 3D TVs in Rome, and the new Regza VL863-series panels were among them.
These TVs display 3D via passive goggles based on the Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology championed by LG, as used in the South Korean's latest Cinema 3D TV. Compared with active shutter 3D glasses, FPR not only delivers flicker-free 3D visuals under room lighting, but also allows for lighter and cheaper 3D eye-wear.
Other highlights of the VL863-series range from enhanced motion reproduction with a fast 100Hz refresh rate, scanning backlight processing, on-board video recording and an iPhone remote control app. These new Regzas may be launched locally from information we gathered, though price and availability are yet to be confirmed.
