With traffic services now available along the eastern seaboard, traffic-enabled GPS devices are now blooming like flowers in the spring sun. We pick three quality units with traffic messaging bundled.
Life's better without traffic, by Kriss Szkurlatowski, royalty free
Now that Suna's traffic messaging service has been launched in Sydney and Brisbane, as well as Melbourne, GPS makers have brought — or in the case of Garmin, will soon be bringing — navigators to market with built-in traffic messaging hardware and a lifetime subscription to Suna's service.
For this round-up we've brought together the best traffic-bundled GPS units from each of the major makers — Garmin excepted, naturally. TomTom's XL Traffic just squeaks in under the magic AU$500 mark. It's got the same features as the regular XL — good looks, compact size, ease of use and the ability to correct map errors — but, you guessed it, with traffic messaging. Traffic bundles are also available for the more expensive Go 730 and Go 930 models.
The Mio Moov range may not be as good looking as its DigiWalker C-Series forebears, but the Moov 370 does have an easier to use interface and is reasonably priced. We're not so keen on the plug-in antenna required for traffic messaging access. If there was an award for the snazziest GPS of the year — and we may just create one just for kicks — the Navman's traffic-equipped S300t, with its slimline silver and metal body and iPhone-esque interface, it would be a shoo-in.
