One factor I think in favour of plasma is that its power consumption is variable, no power on black pixels, and further reduced at lower brightness levels, whereas LCD black pixels consume the same amount of power as white pixels. Maybe future plasmas will exceed LCD efficiency? I was feeling guilty about buying my plasma a few months ago but I have been surprised at how cool it runs in my home (Panasonic cinema setting) compared to the heat coming off the back of the ones in the store running as bright as they can to try to match the LCD brightness.
