Paid $3100 for my 46" plus the 3 years warranty made it a deal i couldn't refuse lol.Had to play around with settings a lot until i was happy but watching all those HD channels and HD dvd's its f***** awsome to watch
Pros: good value , less expensive the Sony and same picture quality if not better
Cons: yeah agree on the speakers . they are a bit
weak and cheap sounding but not all bad mind you.with a desent set of speakers this
LCD is one of the best
I was looking around for ages for what LCD to get and just could not go past the M8 46" which I got last week , the clincher though was the price $3030.00, shop around people the prices are dropping.
Awesome TV!!!! I've had mine for a couple of months now - no faults, I've got everthing plugged into it - Playstation 3, DVD and my computer :) I just wish Samsung would release a driver for it for computer use - would solve alot of headaches
Yea i crack a deal from harvey this afternoon for samsung LA40M81BDX for 2250$...Iam not a big critic and detailer of High defenition stuff..only thing it strikes me is both samsung and sony is at joint venture for LCD and from work experience samsung had grown a lot in technical excellence in the component science..3 year warranty is a good proof
Pros: Cheap and affordable!!!!most of all get lot more for what we pay...ofcoz yo guys won't compare toyota with Porsche..
good contrast and near good black
vibrant colours..
Cons: not doing 100Hz refresh..is a turnoff
slightly blured fast action sport..othervise ok
I was tossing up between this, a Toshiba 47" LCD and a Hitachi plasma 50". This won hands down on value.
Only a few gripes, Picture in picture is limited to only working with HDMI input due to there being only one tuner, and I think that the sound could improve.
I have found that this TV does not have many of the issues that many other LCD's have such as the clouding with fast moving objects. It performs perfectly with the PS3 and is quite literally amazing in colour and depth of black.
Always remember to haggle, as the RRP is $4695. I got it for $3600 WITH interest free at Myer in Dubbo.
Pros: Value
Picture quality
colours including black
Cons: Picture in Picture only as one tuner so only works with HDMI input
Sound quality could improve slightly.
Brendan, 8ms is responce times not to be confused with refresh rates, either way these figues are a bit like the quoted contrast ratio's of most manufactures and not to be believed unless proper testing proves otherwise.
the new 100-120-hz models have their own problems from what ive seen with intermitent sparkles on bright objects on the screen.
Pros: LCD show some of the best HD images available especialy the new samsung and sony models.
Cons: but still loose out to plasma in other area's ie: SD viewing.
Thanks Bazza - that answers my firmware question. I have not yet purchased one of these but I really am keen on the 46"M8, but I have some questions about refresh rate given the 8ms refres rate on the M8. I have read a rate of 6ms or less is excellent for sports etc, and the review on the M8 says detail is the weak point. Is the 6ms rule relevant?
Sony Bravia X Series has a rate of 8ms also but an additional engine - of 100hz which is supposed to solve the problem, true?
The LG competitor has a 5ms rate, but only 10,000:1 contrast, any views?
going back to TY original comments about pushing the sharpness up to full, doing that will allways make the picture look worse, its best viewd at 50% or a tad either side
Pros: samsung M8 series lcd is the best on the market along side the sony x series.
it has the best blacks of any LCD with a pin sharp HD picture that any plasma couldn't compete with.
Cons: the movie plus option needed for 3:2 pulldown and de-interlasing is flawed with firmware issues, i rang samsung today as i want to buy the 132cm M8
and they assured me the updated firmware for the movie plus option will be available soon and realised over free to air channels so you LCD will pick it up from wathching normal TV.
If you're looking for a discrete budget system as equally at home with music as it is with movies then they don't come much better than the Philips SoundBar HTS8140.
The Sony ZX1 is the "world's thinnest" 40-inch LCD and comes with a wireless media box. Meanwhile, LED backlighting should provide this television with an impressive picture.
At CES, the company expressed scepticism about the organic thin TVs getting bigger and mass-produced. At Ceatec, it hints it could take even longer than previously thought.
It was always going to be a tough field to plough: re-mixing the BBC's hugely successful Top Gear into something uniquely Australian. Based on the evidence of the first show, we're not convinced they've succeeded.
Choosing a TV can be hard, but trying to come to terms with all the jargon is even tougher. We simplify things by choosing five of the best 1080p televisions — the highest resolution there is.
The sound company is promoting Dolby Contrast and Dolby Vision, two technologies -- one real, one on the drawing board -- to extend its reach into digital TV and cinema.
