CNET Editor

Hi, I look after product development for CBS Interactive in Sydney - which lets me develop a range of websites including CNET Australia, TV.com and ZDNet Australia.

Upside
Using Wideband Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telephone (WDECT) technology, Uniden claims the 2355 delivers better range, clarity and security compared to regular DECT phones. The stylish looking white handsets feature an orange backlit LCD and keypad so home users should have no problem seeing who is calling at night. Caller identification is enhanced though the 2355's 100 phone number capacity and the ability to assign up to 20 ring tones to stored contacts. Uniden also tout a talk time of seven hours or a standby time of up to 10 days.

Downside
Singles and self-employed home workers will probably not benefit (nor have the room for) all three handsets so the $299 recommended retail price will be unjustifiable to some.

Outlook
Although the retail price of $299 may seem high, Uniden provides three handsets as well as a hands-free headset in the package. Furthermore, the base station features a digital answering machine with a one touch divert button and a Do Not Disturb feature.

The Good:Lots of good features

The Bad:Severe signal fading.
Critical interference from microwave

This the third Uniden cordless I have owned (old fools never learn). Generally it's clarity is top notch, but for no reason, during a conversation, the signal fades away to be almost inaudible. Comes back again spasmodically.
Further more, as I bought this unit because of the advertised ability to resist interference, am rather upset because every time someone uses the Microwave, don't try talking to anyone on the phone. Not a happy chappy, considering the money I had to pay. Is awaiting repair (or replacement) at this stage, so am trusting for a miraculous cure.

I'm sorry to hear that you have been having some trouble with the phone. I am just about to buy one, but there is no way in hell I'd even pay close to $299.00. I am only paying $55.00 plus $14.00 for delivery on Ebay. I hope all is good with it, should be it's brand new. Cheers.

The Good:Great

The Bad:Range is only for home, and over flat field. 900mhz wide-band phone I sued to have was much better for distance, even if three times bigger.

Have cheaper version, similar problems. People experiencing problems two things, all DECT phones experience problem with background noise in calls, some have directional microphones and deal with it better.

http://www.dectweb.com/news%26views/features/0006noise.htm

WDECT phones have problems with wireless networking (as people sometimes use to hook up to their broadband modems) and whatever else. That use the same radio space and cause problems.

Higher frequency means more interference with obstacles, and leaves, as they now reflect radio. Range is severely limited.

Mine has less than niose free operation.

The Good:Good range. Easy to use.

The Bad:LCD panel a little bit hard on the eyes especially if you don't have good vision.

Great phone. I love this phone, I have a games room separate from maqin house and the base station. Great reception. Love the intercom.
