Vine gets serious with new video editing, drafts features

The Vine app for iOS and Android has added two new camera tools that greatly increase users' abilities to fine-tune their short video clips.

Vine, which has over 40 million users on the two major smartphone platforms, added the new features in an update for both apps earlier this week. The app, which lets users post looping 6-second videos, has gained a cult following with a wave of dedicated users who create intricate videos.

"Sessions" is a feature that lets Vine users pause a video creation, save it as a draft and come back to it later. Up to 10 sessions can be stored at once in the app and can be added to or edited at any time. "Time Travel" allows the reorganising, removal or replacement of any clip within a video post before it is published.

Vine is also coming to Windows Phone 8 in a few weeks, although BlackBerry owners are still waiting for any sign of future support.

Vine's iOS director Ben Sheats explained the changes in a blog post: "Vine was built for one purpose: to make it easy for people to capture life in motion and share it with the world. That is the reason we built the Vine camera, and it's why we continue to improve upon and build new tools for your creations, nurturing the balance between power and simplicity that you've come to expect from us."

"We think these features offer new ways for people to express themselves and their creativity."
