Western Digital has gained the honour of releasing the first two-terabyte drives in the market, with units turning up on Australian shelves.

A link turned up on a Czech computer website in December last year offering the drive for sale, causing a stir online. This was followed on 19 January by Overclockers.co.uk offering pre-orders, and now the drive is available in Australian stores.

At the time of writing the 2TB, 32MB cache, 7200rpm drive is available at Mwave for AU$377.80, Mtech Computers for AU$374.99, Opalia Computers for AU$380 and PCMarket for a pricier AU$411.90.

Seagate recently announced its move to 500GB platters with its 7200.12 series, a move that may mean it will launch its own 2TB product soon.

guest85, don't panic - i believe this article refers to prices in australian dollars, not us dollars as your google search probably unearthed.

Why Why why price is $300 for?!!!! That is retard! I saw on Google said that Western Digital 2 TB Hard drive price between $210 to $230. $300 is shame!

500 GB hard drive will be $49.99 and 1 TB will cost $99.99. I not playing game. Really serious! I will keep eye on all kinds of stores and on internet at same time. If price go crazy will be wrong! I know 2 TB should be $199.99 this end of year 2009 (FALL). Oh my god, we getting old. Crying! :'-(
