Windows Vista Home Premium

By Robert Vamosi on 29 January 2007

Windows Vista Home Premium is essentially warmed-over Windows XP Home Edition. If you're currently happy with Windows XP SP2, we see no compelling reason to upgrade. On the other hand, if you need a new computer right now, Windows Vista Home Premium is stable enough for everyday use.

Windows vista is better than mac os x and has an awesome skin but these are the only good things about vista, you may as well buy a brick.

    • Good: Awesome Skin
    • Bad: Crashes 24-7
      Unstable
      Slows down computer
      Not very User Friendly
      Full of bugs
Asks for confirmation for every single little thing.

    I Agree with "ms529212".
    Very Unstable
    Very Buggy
    Crashes Alot more than XP
    I WANT XP BACK!!!!!

    • Good: OKish Skin
    • Bad: I am stuck with Vista because the drivers for my laptop are only avalable for vista and Windows XP installer does not detect a hard drive because of the BIOS driver only being for vista.

Fewer system crashes my a$$. Most crashprone OS since Windows 95.

    • Good: Nothing. I miss XP.
    • Bad: Slow. Freezes daily, sometimes multiple times, requiring a hard restart.

Very stable, good looking, fashionable and safe O.S for the modern market.

    • Good: Look

      Safety
    • Bad: Price
      Requirements
      Compatibility

I bought an new PC nearly 6 months ago with Vista Premium installed. My god, what is this all about. I have never use an operating system that is impossible to use. The lock ups and internet unstable connection is really making me go bananas.
The internet goes from Private connection then changes to public connection.
Another BIG problem is it will never do a System Restore. I am sure I got a dud copy installed on mine when the PC was being configured.
I am disappointed with Vista Premium, I thought it would be easier to use and more stable.

Maybe it was just because of its looks that I chose to have Vista installed on my 6 months old computer that was stable at the time I bought it.
I got this because of the bundled deal I had bough from Dell, well that sucked me in big time.

    Never again!

    • Good: Just the look of it would get anyone who wnats Vista and its screensavers and wallpepers.
    • Bad: For me; unstable on a brand new PC. I can't figure out the disconnecting every few minutes and then it connected for a few more minutes.

The most terrrrrrrrible OS ever developed. I've been using Vista Home Premium for 3 months now and I'm looking over my shoulders for an iMac or new system preinstalled with XP.

What on earth is this? How can an OS be designed to drive its users mad in an attempt to make them more productive and efficient as MS usually says.

I use a Toshiba Satellite with a 1.8 Ghz processor, 1G of RAM and a HDD of 120G and yet it takes an average of 4 seconds to pop the Start menu everytime I try.

I had an Acer Travelmate that featured a 1.4Ghz processor, 256MB of RAM and 40G HDD with XP Pro and it worked like a charm.

This is by far the most I'll ever go with MS as far as their OSes are concerned. Its clear they dont get it when it comes to advancements in OPERATING SYSTEMs.

    • Good: Looks cool, looks cool, everyone's saying. I couldn't sacrifice performance for display anytime so I dont give a heck how cool it looks. However, for those who enjoy crispy interfaces on top of a bloated and lazy engine, you have a bet on Vista.
    • Bad: Thousands! I couldn't list them all even if I were given 3 days to make the compilation. The most hateful are its amazingly slow response, remarkably annoying pop ups, and very difficult to use features.

Terrible. I am just a novice user who users computers for work and home alot, but i am not very technically minded. It runs as slow as anything, and freezes continuously. I would never recommend Vista to others to buy. Although a few people have told me it needs min 1GB (preferably 2GB) to run properly, and my computer only has 512MB. Bought the computer 3 mths ago pre-loaded with vista, really can't understand why they would load it in a computer with512MB if they know it needs a min 1GB to run smoothly

    • Good: Haven't found any yet
    • Bad: Way to slow to start up. Internet is way to slow and freezes continuously. Even using things like word and excell take forever to open

i recently got a new laptop with vista home prenium installed on it. Compared with windows xp i have found that vista performs faster on the web and much faster with games. No crashes or security problems either so iam wondering why people hate vista. i

    • Good: faster performance with games and internet and all around general uses: word documents etc,
      looks nicer
      better security
      loads faster
    • Bad: sort of shuts down slower than xp
      high system requirements
      price

Window vista may not "crash" but it will freeze regularly and a 10 second internet download can take 5 minuites!!

    • Good: Better graphics (for those nerds that need them!!).
    • Bad: Lots!! Very slow startup (Almost as slow as windows 98) Dreadfully slow internet performance, no option. New computers are Vista only. See above!!
Give me XP any day!! I would happily trade my 3 week old pc for a second-hand Ebay job!!
