Windows Vista Ultimate

By Robert Vamosi on 29 January 2007

Windows Vista is essentially warmed-over Windows XP. If you're currently happy with Windows XP SP2, we see no compelling reason to upgrade. On the other hand, if you need a new computer right now, Windows Vista is stable enough for everyday use.

I could metaphorically describe this OS as a car that has been given a new paint job, new interiors, a sound system with more subs than Germany had in World War 2. But the car happens to be a Russian Niva.
I will wait until SP 2 comes out, (just like XP all over again!)

    • Good: Uber cool display
    • Bad: Could only view the Uber cool display between it's predominant setting- a blue screen with an error message.

Fair enough it makes computers run slower but hey it was not released 3 years ago. I was more then happy to ugrade my system to run vista after beta testing it for a month.

    • Good: Very visualy appealing, great connectivity with xbox 360 as media extender, media centre is wonderful and about time micro$oft learnt how to manage a filesystem
    • Bad: Activation is a pain when it comes to upgrades

I wish I stayed with XP.

    • Good: Nothing over XP.
    • Bad: Endless issues with drivers (video cards, wireless keyboards etc). Attempts to improve security simply cause irriation.

Vista is a high serurity risk.

Having to be activated at central servers every 2 months or so will be the death of the USA.

It is urgent that you report this before Vista get's too out of hand.

What happens if & WHEN Russia, China, or some script kiddi writes a code that wipes out MS activation servers, or their headquarters get hit by a severe earthquake or natural disaster?

Not only will you be unable to phone it, call in, web in your activation, but you will be left with a dead windows box.

Any US business (OR Foreign) will be vulnerable at that point, with no way to use their data that they PAID for.

Vista, essentially, strips the control from the user & MS tell you what to do with what YOU paid for.

MS must realize, they get THEIR $$$ from you, not the other way around.

    • Good: Looks good
    • Bad: - Trusted Computing nightmare
      - 1 to 1 digital copy restrictions too prohibitive
      - Painfully slow, buggy, crash prone as verified by MS, with little more than .ANI cursors. Oh, don't say the patch fixed it, there are new ones in the works
