World Cup live on your mobile phone
By Jeremy Roche on 08 June 2006
If Big Brother on your phone isn't enough to satisfy your live streaming needs, 3 mobile, the official mobile video provider for the FIFA 2006 World Cup, is giving its customers access to live streams of the matches, including replays, team profiles and the latest news on the soccer series that's put everyone in a frenzy this month.
For AU$8 per month, fans get unlimited access to all of the matches streamed live and official video highlights of every match played throughout the 2006 FIFA World Cup (and highlights from the 2002 World Cup). Also bundled in the pack is access to live scores, full group tables, schedules, scoreboards, match previews and reviews.
A 3 spokesperson told CNET.com.au that all of the matches that are live on SBS will be re-transmitted over 3's network to subscribing customers with only a few seconds lag time.
According to a survey conducted by 3 mobile, Aussie males between the ages of 18 and 39 are planning to stay up late to watch an average of 15 live matches during the World Cup. 83 percent of this group (and 93 percent of all males surveyed) are planning to down three or more beers each game -- geez, aren't we going to be a merry bunch at work Down Under over the next couple of weeks.
