I wasn't expecting the X1 out til Jan 09 anyway, and with Telstra getting it first, I'll still be waiting til Jan/Feb 09, when I can GO WITH ANOTHER CARRIER!
I would even consider buying this phone outright before entering into a contract with Telstra. Luckily my K850 is still going strong and I can hold out!
Joseph, don't let "pdme" push you around! Ha! -

Just to clarify the point of exclusivity, Sony Ericsson have confirmed to me that Telstra will have a timed exclusive to the X1. This is a similar arrangement Telstra has had with the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Dual, giving them a couple of months (typically) before other carriers can sell the phone.
There's no information yet when the other carriers will get the X1 and which carriers this will be. -

Just to confirm what dkshao said... i called the xperia line sony have set up and when i mentioned this article the operator actually groaned... she told me it wasnt true, that telstra arent getting it exclusively, and that its up to the networks and no such decision has been made and certainly not broadcast. She also told me that its not coming out till around christmas or early jan... unlike the much hoped for early december release we all hoped for. More waiting in store... but at least the telstra only thing isn't true.

If X1 is going to optus / voda , that means the EXCLUSIVE one is only X1 850Mhz NextG version. Like what this Joseph Hanlon says Diamond / touch dual are exclusive to telstra, which is not...i do not think this Joseph Hanlon's done proper research before writing this article.

I spoke to Sonyericsson Australia today, they said that the x1 is NOT going to be limited to a single carrier.
Also I noticed there are 2 versions of the x1 on the SE website, so it’s probably going to be a next G version that Telstra get (but on this part I am speculating) -

Quit your complaining ppl... the phone is expensive yes. But at least that means only cashed up douchebags will have one :P
Do some research there are a number of dif models. You CAN get an unlocked one with the right UMTS frequencies for optus or vodafone to use HSDPA in capitals and rural areas. Yes you will have to buy it outright and from overseas.
Boohoo... if u don't have enough money to get an X1 and telstra's superior service is too expensive for u well just suck it.
Can't wait for my x1.. btw there's a cool video on youtube where they've got a hack of HTC's touchflo 3d able to be run from clicking on one of the x1s panels :P
Been waiting a long time for an attractive WM phone with good screen res that can properly replace my N95 and PDA in one device. Just a shame about the 3.2megapixel camera with no flash. Oh well. -

That sucks. I would never move to Telstra. I really wanted to get it though. :/
